The Latter Rains

Today is the eighth day of Kislev the ninth month of the Jewish calendar.  It is the month that marks the beginning of the winter season or the latter rains.  The rainy season is welcomed in Israel for it waters the seed so that a great crop may come forth in the spring.

This month is also about light triumphing over darkness.  It is on the 25 of Kislev that Hanukkah is celebrated.  It is a month that marks how a few people who were zealous for God made a difference against a great army.   It also speaks of those who were zealous for the temple of their God and restored its proper worship.

In this month we are reminded that the oil of the Holy Spirit kept their lamps burning for the eight days it did not run out.  In John 1:32-33 Then John gave this testimony. “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.  I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me the man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.”

Yes, the Holy Spirit is not given for simply a manifestation in the moment but for power and duration until the Lord returns.  It will last until the eighth day and will keep us.  The Holy Spirit will not just come on us but to remain in us.  Jesus said if you remain in me you will bear much fruit.  The spirit in the Old Testament came upon men but the spirit in the New Testament remains in men, because it has been written that the latter rain will be greater than the former rain.

We are in the time of the latter rains.  The Holy Spirit will not run out for those who remain in Christ, their lamps will keep burning.  We are of those who overcome with his light.  As the rains come, the preparation for the fruit that will rise in the Spring is being laid.

from this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundations of the Lords temple was laid. Giver careful thought; Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not born fruit. “From this day on I will bless you”.Haggai 2:16
God promises that on this day the first day of Hanukkah or December 6 on our calendar from this day says the Lord I will bless you.

This month is a month of victory, expectation and triumph.  Be Blessed!!
