For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.Hebrews 4:12

I love how this verse describes the word of God like a sword. Whereas a physical sword can only penetrate the physical, the sword of God goes down to the deepest parts of our hearts.

The word of God cuts away all lies, deceit and sin. It severs all falsehoods and leaves only truth in its wake. Every time this sword is swung in our lives it takes away worldly thinking and replaces it with Godly wisdom. It is a sword of judgment that weighs the deepest motives of our hearts. And it is the sword we will one day be measured against to enter into the kingdom of God.

Every time we read the word of God it should be accomplishing something in your life. It should be a mirror that shows us our state compared to God and an opportunity to align ourselves further with Christ.

Just as with a real sword it takes time to master. However, we will never be able to effectively use the word of God in the world if we are not utilizing it in our lives every day to judge our hearts, cut away our iniquity and purify our faith.

May the word of God go deep this day and may it bear fruit in your life!
