Today I was really excited after Pastor Jerry shared with the men this verse. It’s a command that God gives us summing up the entire law…LOVE!

I was prompted in my heart to do a little research on the Hebrew thought of what love is. In our culture we throw around the word love for everything from the love of food to the love of money. It’s become a shallow word that doesn’t have the value it should have.

But, when we look to the Hebrew understanding of love, it means “giving.” Whether it’s giving time, ourselves, or anything that takes sacrifice. Think about it, we show love by giving ourselves to God and giving ourselves to our brothers and sisters. The Bible says that “God is love.” And God has given us the greatest sacrifice…His Son The Lord Jesus Christ.

God has given us the prime example of what love truly is. So we must ask ourselves: How much have I loved, or simply put, how much have I given?

What have we given to the Kingdom? Given our family and brethren? This is key to showing the world who God is. “They will know us by the love that we have for one another.”

So my prayer is that we reflect on the great sacrifice God has given for each of us and that we would give of ourselves just as our Lord has. Amen!
