Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”
But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ”John 5:8-11

When reading this I was thinking about the law and this healed man. If he were to still be under the law, he would have had to stay on the ground. The law would have kept him where he had been for the last 38 years, stuck on the ground with no way out.

Yet Jesus Christ comes and heals Him. He called him off the ground and out of the law to be set free. Free from his situation and free from the law.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the law and is our way to be set free. Free from the sin that has burdened us for so long and freedom from the law that has kept us stuck where we were.
