And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”Luke 22:15-18

United Faith Church,

This verse is from the final supper, an intimate time between Jesus and His disciples. The Passover feast was a commemoration of the Spirit of God passing over Israel’s doors in the final plague in Egypt. Each household in Israel sacrificed a lamb and spread the blood over their doorposts and because of this they were spared from the death that was to come.

Jesus says a curious thing to His disciples. He says, “I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God”. He is telling them that He will not participate in this feast again until The Passover was fulfilled in heaven. Jesus was giving His disciples a clue of what was to come. He was telling them that He was the lamb that was to be slain and His blood would be what spares them from the death that was to come. Passover was a foreshadow of what was to come; Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of Passover, the ultimate sacrifice.

He reiterates again, while passing the drink, that He will not drink the wine again until He is in heaven. Where there will be a great celebration of the victory that was completed on the cross. Jesus Christ was the sacrificial lamb; He was the sacrifice that took the penalty for our sins. Now, He is seated at the right hand of God in heaven celebrating for each life that has been redeemed through His great sacrifice.

We too, should be celebrating with Jesus! Celebrate His victory, celebrate our redeemed lives and celebrate the citizenship we have been gifted in heaven. Thank you Jesus for your wonderful sacrifice that has redeemed the hearts of your children!

Amen,

Kris
