James 1:22-25
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive  yourselves. Do what it says.  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like like.

The word is the mirror.  It  is not only necessary for it to judge what is wrong but for you to fix it.   Imagine looking into the mirror and seeing your face is dirty and then forgetting about what you saw and walking out the door like that.
Many have looked in the mirror and have not fixed what is wrong.  His word (mirror) judges the attitude of our heart and tells us how we are looking to HIM.
